Why Your Heat Pump Blows Hot Air in Cooling Mode
If your heat pump is blowing hot air, it can be difficult to keep your home cool in Milton, GA. Here are some of the issues that might cause a heat pump to blow hot air when it’s in cooling mode.
Incorrect Thermostat Settings
If you don’t set the thermostat to “cool,” or the temperature setting is high, the heat pump will likely blow hot air. To prevent this, set the thermostat to “cool,” and set the thermostat to 2 to 4 degrees below the current room temperature.
Low Refrigerant Levels
A heat pump will probably blow hot air if the refrigerant level is low. Refrigerant absorbs heat from the inside of your home and transfers it to the outside. Without enough refrigerant, the heat pump won’t be able to remove enough heat from your home, so it will blow hot air.
Duct Leaks
Duct leaks occur when there are holes or gaps in the ductwork that carries air from the heat pump into various areas in your home. These leaks can cause the air to cool down before it reaches a room, which can make your heat pump work harder and cause it to blow hot air.
Dirty Coils
A dirty heat pump coil can reduce the efficiency of the unit, leading to blowing hot air instead of cold. If the coils are dirty, they don’t transfer heat as effectively, which often causes the heat pump to malfunction.
Faulty Reversing Valve
In some cases, a faulty reversing valve is responsible. This valve controls the flow of refrigerant in the HVAC system. When the reversing valve malfunctions, it may cause the refrigerant to flow in the wrong direction, preventing the heat pump from cooling your home.
